Psalm 124

1If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, now may Israel say;
2If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us:
3Then they had swallowed us up quick,
When their wrath was kindled against us:
4Then the waters had overwhelmed us,
The stream had gone over our soul:
5Then the proud waters,
Had gone over our soul.
6Blessed be the LORD,
Who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.
7Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers:
The snare is broken, and we are escaped.
8Our help is in the name of the LORD,
Who made heaven and earth.

Psalm 124 is a powerful declaration of God’s protection and deliverance, traditionally attributed to King David. Here's the opening line to set the tone:

"If the Lord had not been on our side…" (Psalm 124:1)

It’s a communal song of thanksgiving, reflecting on how Israel would have been overwhelmed by enemies or disasters if not for God’s intervention. Here's a brief reflection on its themes:

Themes in Psalm 124

  • Divine Rescue: The psalm vividly describes being saved from overwhelming danger—like floodwaters or being prey to a predator. It’s poetic and dramatic, emphasizing how close the people came to destruction.

  • Gratitude and Awe: It’s not just about survival—it’s about recognizing that survival was only possible because of God’s help. That sense of humility and thankfulness is central.

  • Communal Faith: The repeated use of “we” and “us” shows this isn’t just personal—it’s a shared experience of deliverance, meant to strengthen the faith of the whole community.

๐Ÿ•Š️ Verse 8 sums it up beautifully:

"Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth."

It’s a reminder that no matter how dire things seem, there’s hope and strength in trusting God.

Israel

6Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:

They shall prosper that love thee.

As of August 2025, the situation in Israel and Gaza remains highly volatile and deeply complex. Here are the key developments:

๐Ÿ”ฅ Conflict and Ceasefire Talks

  • Hamas has accepted a 60-day ceasefire proposal mediated by Egypt and Qatar, which includes the release of half the hostages held in Gaza and the exchange of Palestinian prisoners [1].
  • Israel has not formally responded to the proposal. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insists that the war will only end when all hostages are released, Hamas is disarmed, and Israel retains control over Gaza City [1].

๐Ÿงญ Military Escalation

  • Israel is intensifying its military operations in Gaza City, aiming to seize control of what it considers Hamas' last stronghold. This has led to mass displacement of Palestinians and fears of a protracted urban conflict [1] [2].
  • Over 62,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 156,000 wounded since the war began in October 2023 [2].

๐Ÿง’ Humanitarian Crisis

  • Aid organizations report severe shortages of food, medicine, and clean water. Over 100 NGOs accuse Israel of “weaponizing” humanitarian aid by imposing restrictive registration rules that block deliveries [3].
  • France is preparing to airdrop 36 tonnes of aid into Gaza, as traditional delivery routes remain obstructed [3].

๐Ÿ—ฃ️ Public Pressure and Protests

  • Inside Israel, massive protests have erupted, with thousands demanding a deal to end the war and secure the release of hostages. These are among the largest demonstrations since the conflict began [1].
  • Families of hostages and bereaved citizens are leading the movement, urging the government to prioritize negotiations over military escalation.

Would you like updates on how this might affect U.S. foreign policy, regional stability, or humanitarian aid efforts?

Kids Scared of Cat - What to do

It’s really common for kids to be scared of pets, especially cats, since they can be unpredictable or move quickly. Here are some gentle, practical steps you can take to help your kids feel more comfortable:

๐Ÿพ 1. Observe the Cat’s Behavior

Make sure your cat isn’t doing anything that might be unintentionally intimidating—like sudden pouncing, loud meowing, or swatting. If your cat is generally calm, that’s a great starting point.

๐Ÿง’ 2. Let the Kids Set the Pace

Encourage your kids to watch the cat from a distance at first. Let them get used to its movements and sounds without pressure to interact.

๐Ÿงธ 3. Use Positive Associations

Try pairing the cat’s presence with something your kids enjoy—like reading a book, watching a show, or having a snack. This helps build a sense of safety and comfort.

๐Ÿฑ 4. Teach Gentle Interaction

Show your kids how to approach the cat slowly, offer a hand for sniffing, and use soft voices. You can even demonstrate petting using a stuffed animal first.

๐ŸŽฎ 5. Make It a Game

Turn it into a fun activity—like tossing treats for the cat or using a feather toy while the kids watch. This can help shift fear into curiosity.

๐Ÿ›‘ 6. Respect Their Feelings

If they’re still scared, that’s okay. Let them know it’s normal to feel unsure and that they don’t have to rush into anything. Just being near the cat without fear is progress.

Any football games of my old hometown vs. current hometown?

Burrell and Leechburg do not have a regular-season football game scheduled against each other in 2025. Their only matchup is a scrimmage that took place on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Burrell High School [1].

This scrimmage was part of a regional kickoff event and not an official WPIAL game. Since Burrell plays in Class 3A and Leechburg in Class 1A, they don’t typically meet during the regular season unless it's a non-conference game or playoff scenario.

If you're interested, I can help you find livestreams or updates for either team's upcoming games. Would you like to follow Burrell, Leechburg, or both this season?

Burrell & Leechburg Football

Great question! While Burrell and Leechburg are both part of the Alle-Kiski Valley region and occasionally face off—like in the recent scrimmage to kick off the 2025 season [1]—they aren't traditionally considered major rivals in the same way some other schools are.

Their matchups tend to be more regional and friendly, especially since they’re in different classifications within the WPIAL (Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League). Burrell typically competes in Class 3A, while Leechburg is in Class 1A, which means they don’t face each other regularly in conference play.

That said, when they do meet—like in scrimmages or non-conference games—it can still carry a bit of local pride and excitement, especially for folks like you who’ve lived in both towns. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Would you be interested in seeing how their teams are shaping up this season or maybe checking out when they next play each other?
